April in Food

Phone photos from April.

Edinburgh

I went to Edinburgh during the Easter holidays, took a lot of photos with my SLR but didn't want to cart it round at night. For this reason, many of my food photos are taken on my phone and are somewhat grainy.

Salmon and quinoa salad and cider for lunch at The Conan Doyle...

An amazing seasonal tasting menu at The Kitchin...

Mezcal cocktails, ceviche and chicken fajitas at The Basement...

All the chicken wings at (you guessed it) Wings....

Chung Ying Central takeaway

Often necessary. Especially Yuk Sung.

The Bull's Head

My new local. Davenport's Brewery have taken over a beautiful old pub just off Broad Street and given it a new lease of life, with cocktails, Davenport's beers, an 'Indian street food' inspired menu and some great tunes.

I've headed there for lunch, where I had a paratha roll filled with crunchy salad and lightly spiced and fried king prawns, with a fabulous chickpea salad, chips and a mango dip, all for £6.

I headed back over the bank holiday to try their new brunch menu. The Full English looked way too massive (honestly, you could share it) so I had baked eggs, spiced beans and chilli cheese toast, which was fantastic.

The Warehouse Cafe

My first time visiting this vegetarian restaurant in Digbeth. I enjoyed my battered halloumi and chips, but the highlight was the soft, delicious banana cake with toffee sauce and soy ice cream.

The Stable

I've only just reviewed their new menu, but I was back there last week for another delicious dish- this one a spicy chicken and peanut salad. It's not just about pizza you know.

Godzilla/Nikka Whisky taste-along at The Electric

The Birmingham Whisky Club arranged it and it was what it said on the tin: I watched Godzilla with a whisky in hand and it was massive fun.

All food and drink paid for myself.
