October in Food

Photos taken on my phone during October.

I do need a new phone!

Quick lunch at this Mexican fast food joint- I went for two chicken and one veggie taco. It was splendid but I found the ordering system rather stressful.

Tea and cake at York's

It's unusual that a month goes by when I don't go to York's for breakfast, lunch or for tea and cake. I do like that they always do something a little unexpected. This fig tart was beautiful and so enjoyable with chai tea.

I wrote about my previous Yumzee experience before and October found me at a Carribbean BBQ event held in the foyer of a Flotation Spa. I'd recommend checking out the Yumzee website as there are lots of wonderful food events on there.

The High Field

It's a firm favourite of mine and last month I headed back to The High Field for dinner with friends. I had these lovely scallops to start.

Pierre Victoire Oxford

I had a lovely mini break to Oxford during half term. During the break I ate at a delightful French bistro, the type you just don't see very often. Tasty, comforting food, a lovely atmosphere, plenty of wine and reasonable prices.

I ate from the prix fixe menu; three courses for £25. Light and tasty Gradvalax to start, followed by pan fried plaice with potatoes in a butter sauce and Iles Flotante for pudding. Ills Flotante of course being Floating Islands- soft meringue in Creme Anglais.

Koto, Oxford

Also in Oxford, a small Japanese restaurant. Edd and I drank Japanese spirits and shared some delicious sushi, edamame beans, katsu prawns and pleasantly-named Octopus balls. A delicious meal, a great atmosphere; I wish I could transport it to Birmingham!

Byron Burger

I went out for dinner and cocktails with my good friend Sophie last week. We tried Byron as it's new and I've heard good things about it. I plan to return and do a proper review but this was a good preview. I had the chicken burger with buffalo sauce- pleasant enough but I could barely taste the buffalo. Great cheesy chips though. I think I will try a beef burger next time.

Yes I do cook! Two wonderful dishes here from Simply Cook recipes- a light chicken curry made with Greek yoghurt and lamb with salad and potato wedges.

And sometimes you just want to stay in but don't want to cook and you order a burger and spicy slaw. Use my link to get money off your first order.
