Wing Wednesday: The Botanist

Call me crazy, but I've decided to start a new feature on the blog: WING WEDNESDAY.

In the past few months I've become a bit fixated on wings. Then I realised- it's not me deciding I like chicken wings, it's restaurants and bars catching up and improving their wing offerings. It's probably thanks to the current obsession with American diner food, but wings aren't just American, as we will hopefully find out throughout this series.

To kick off, here's The Botanist's Basket of Wings. Served as a starter, this is £5.95 for about 6 wings.

They say: Basket of wings served with either BBQ, Piri Piri or Chipotle Creme Fraiche.

I say: The presentation is cute and quirky as you would expect at The Botanist. The wings were of a medium size and came plain but with a sauce to dip. I picked Chipotle Creme Fraiche, which had a pleasant heat but wasn't too strong. The wings themselves had crispy skin and a good amount of meat, but I could taste the frying oil too strongly. Perhaps if they were marinaded this would be masked but then they couldn't go in the pretty basket!

Would I order again? No, go for the calamari or scotch egg instead.

Wings paid for myself.
