News: Christmas Foodie events this week

Edgbaston Christmas Lights

Head to Edgbaston this Friday evening to get in the festive spirit. The Christmas Light switch-on is a big deal this year. Local radio DJs Rob and Katy from Capital FM will be there along with MP Gisela Stuart to switch on the lights at 5.30pm outside St George's Church on Westbourne Crescent.
Father Christmas will be there to hand out presents to children, and there will be mulled cider, hot buttered rum and hot chocolate from nearby businesses The High Field, The Edgbaston and Norjske.

El Borracho de Oro will be giving out paella samples at their Harborne Road venue- definitely worth checking out! School choirs and a jazz band will be performing thorughout.

It sounds delightfully Christmassy and a really nice way to celebrate the lovely community that is growing in Edgbaston at the moment.

Birmingham German Market

Like it or not, the German Market is part of Christmas in Birmingham now. It's opening on Thursday and I'm looking forward to seeing what is new this year and how it will change due to the Paradise works.

Top tip: Head up to the local craft fair area where you will find more space, less crowds, hot mulled cider and a bigger variety of food. I do like to head to the German section once or twice for sausage, mulled wine and fruit on a stick but I spend most time in the craft area.
