Nuneaton is about half an hour away from Birmingham on the train but I can't say I knew much about it until recently. I sometimes used to change trains there when I was at uni in Leicester and that was all I knew. I was recently invited to the launch night of a brand new Gastro Pub in Nuneaton- The Fuzzy Duck. With such a cute name, I couldn't resist getting on the train and checking it out.
Myself and a few other local bloggers sat in a bright conservatory area and were treated to drinks and samples from the menu. We were supposed to be choosing directly from the menu but the head chef had been let down by some suppliers and so he did what he could. I can imagine how annoying that must have been for him!
These citrus king prawns were the highlight of the night for me. Grilling them right next to the lime or lemon was a great idea.
Mozzarella, tomato and parma ham bruschettas.
Sausage and mash in canapé form- so cute.
Chicken skewers- these were beautifully moist and tasty.
Duck and garlic mash. The full version of this is the pub's signature dish. I spotted quite a lot of duck on the menu, including duck eggs and duck on pizza.
Finally, beautiful little brownie squares.
Although we couldn't try full size dishes, I really enjoyed what I got to try. It was lovely to listen to the head chef's ethos too- he's really passionate about working with local produce, local suppliers and doing something that's a cut above the average pub.
I had a lovely time with the other bloggers, eating and chatting. I'd definitely head back to The Fuzzy Duck to see how they are getting on now they are officially open.
Thanks to The Fuzzy Duck for providing the food and drinks and to Emily of Emily's Recipes and Reviews for inviting me along.
