Foodie news: new openings and events

Rub Smokehouse

Opening Wednesday 22nd July this new Broad Street venue will be serving up giant smokehouse food and quirky cocktails. Expect ribs, giant burgers with corn dogs, cocktails in bathtubs and rubber ducks!

I've got my eye on waffles with chicken.

Nosh and Quaff

I've mentioned it before but now we have an official opening date- 31st July.  This will be the new opening from the team behind Lasan but it will be slightly more casual, selling craft beers, lobster and hotdogs.

Taking over the space opposite The Cube, right next to the canal, Vivaanta will be offering two menus- one traditionally Indian and one seafood. Well, we aren't short of decent Indian restaurants in Birmingham so I'm most excited about the seafood- give me the scallops and prawns! Naturally they will also be selling cocktails.

Taste and Liqour at the Coffin Works

A new fortnightly event is taking place at the Coffin Works in the Jewellery Quarter. As well as local street food there will be a gin and rum bar. What is particularly exciting is the location- a factory restored by the Birmingham Conservation Trust.

Burger Battle

Obviously I'm a big fan of the Burger Battles and when I heard that September's event would be the last in Birmingham (for now) I had to be there! If you haven't experienced the joy of eating two amazing burgers and voting for your favourite, well...this is your last chance! I don't know who the two burger teams will be yet but you can bet they will be excellent.

Cocktail XChange

I recently attended Gin in June from Cocktail XChange, which was a lot of fun- £25 got you gin based cockails, shots of gin and a talk about the spirit. The next one will be held at Le Truc and is all about Absinthe. I'm excited about this as I know very little about the spirit.
