Review: The Dark Horse, Moseley with Independent Birmingham

Today's song: The Coasters- Down in Mexico

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to win one of Independent Birmingham's Twitter competitions.

Independent Birmingham promotes local independent businesses and also has a membership card which gets you discount at many of these businesses.
One of these businesses is The Dark Horse in Moseley, and that is where I headed to get my prize!

The Dark Horse is a bar and restaurant with its own pizza oven. They have a variety of pizzas, burgers and smoked meat dishes.

My prize was this amazing platter...

The Dark Horse Smokehouse Platter serves four and contains all of their smoked items plus beans, fries, nachos and dips!

The smoked items are:

* Pork ribs
*Beef rib
*Turkey Breast
*Chicken wings in Carolina Red sauce
*Brisket

We all loved the brisket- that was probably the favourite around the table. It was tender and juicy. I loved the chicken wings too- well cooked with a tasty smoky flavour, but not too hot! The beef rib was a surprise hit for me too, with huge chunks of meat that fell off the bone. The ribs were satisfying and had the smokiest taste to me. The turkey was nice but probably the weakest item on the plate.

The platter serves four and is usually £49.  It seems like a lot of food on the plate but we all had plenty without being stuffed.

In fact we had room for dessert...

I went for a vanilla, chocolate, pear and waffle concoction, purely because it was called Belle Helene! The pears went perfectly with the creamy ice cream and melted chocolate.

Edd had the Denmark Delux which came with white chocolate chips instead of pear.

The venue also kindly provided us with free tickets to the band upstairs. It was 'Tarantino vs Scorcese' night and the band were playing songs from both directors' films. It was great fun- we did a lot of dancing!

Even without the bottle of wine and meat platter, we had an amazing night. I'll definitely be revisiting Dark Horse, trying out their tasty looking pizzas or burgers then heading upstairs for more dancing.

Photos are awful due to being from a variety of phones- you get the picture!

Thanks so much to The Dark Horse and Independent Birmingham for my meal.
