Foodie News: Events and Openings in Birmingham

I've had a few press releases and emails pop into my inbox recently so here is a round up of what you can expect to see in Birmingham soon!

Taste and Liquor Global Food Festival

A new weekly street food event is starting up this Saturday at Southside. It will be held in a new space on Lower Essex Street. Now, I called it a street food event but it sounds like there will be much more going on besides street food from around the world. To mention just a handful of things that will be taking place: cocktail masterclasses, independent pop-up stalls, a book swap, classic film cinema and music! I'm looking forward to popping down and seeing what's going on. It's great that it's weekly as you don't need to fret about missing out- there's got to be one Saturday you can make! It sounds like there's going to be lots of special events going on, interesting indeed.
Having a nose at their website I also spotted that they will be supporting local food banks by taking donations, which is fantastic.
Check out their website www.tasteandliquor.com or pop down for yourself on Saturday.

Gin in June

From the team behind Rib Nights and Burger Battle, CocktailXChange have teamed up with Langley's Gin to celebrate World Gin Day. On Saturday 13th June, events will be taking place across the world to celebrate. Don't forget to drink a G&T at 7pm and pop a picture on twitter with the hashtag #ginoclock. You could win a Gin related prize including Gin tasting on a yacht...!
People of Birmingham can also get involved at a special event at Hotel Du Vin. For £25 you get..

3 Specially Crafted Gin Cocktails
A Gin & Tonic to Celebrate Gin O'Clock
Bar Snacks
Educational Talks on Langleys Gin
Close Hand Magician
Great After Party
Which sounds like a pretty decent evening for £25.

Umami Indian Kitchen

Umami is a restaurant and cocktail bar opening soon in Harborne. They're promising contemporary Indian food plus cocktails. Ingredients will be locally sourced and it will seat 70 diners as well as a cocktail bar area. Harborne isn't short of lovely places to eat, but Umami should be a tasty addition.
Check out their website http://www.umamiharborne.com/ or twitter @UmamiHarborne

Aluna

Rather mysterious this one. I recently had an email with the above picture and very little else. Well it grabbed my attention and encouraged me to do a little googling. According to the Birmingham Mail Aluna will be in the Mailbox site previously occupied by The Oriental Restaurant. It looks like they will have theatrical, 'sciencey' cocktails with bunsen burners and smoke and so on. Think The Alchemist  (though I have heard rumours that they will be coming to Birmingham soon).
Have a look at their currently empty website: http://www.aluna.uk.com/ or twitter: @alunabirmingham

Marco's New York Italian Birmingham

Marco's New York Italian restaurants have been popping up at hotels all over the country and now it's Birmingham's turn.

Check out Brum Hour's blog for more on the launch https://brumhour.wordpress.com/2015/05/25/marcos-new-york-italian-lands-at-birmingham-airports-holiday-inn/

I'll be popping a review of the Kenilworth site up soon!
