White Russian Cocktails and a cocktail weekend

A couple of weeks ago I was set a challenge by Alex from Birmingham Cocktail Weekend to come up with a cocktail-themed cupcake. I ummed and ahhed for a while before going with White Russian.

The White Russian is the first 'serious' cocktail I tried (i.e. not Wetherspoons pitchers...). This was before cocktail culture had really hit the Midlands and it was at a very cute bar in Leicester called the Turkey Café. I hope it's still there, they used to set off a bubble machine out of the upstairs window!

You can find the results of my challenge over at The Birmingham Cocktail Weekend blog .You can find the recipe I adapted and tweaked and some pictures. Suffice to say the cakes did not last long and I did have myself a couple of cheeky White Russian drinks that evening!

While you're there, check out the website and if you feel like a weekend of exploring Birmingham's AMAZING cocktail scene, register your interest for an earlybird wristband! For two days from 10th July you will be able to use your guidebook and wristband to try out lots of Birmingham's best bars.

Intriguing! It looks nice, though I'm not really keen on alcohol tasting things!!x

This is an interesting idea. I've never tried a White Russian so I should probably educate myself on some cocktails this year! It does look yummy though. - Tasha
