The Great British Summer

The Great British Summer

Would you believe it is June? Yesterday it was freezing cold and raining. I had thick tights and a scarf on. Seriously! We went to the Birmingham International Food Fair in the city centre around Victoria Square, which is where they usually have the German Market. If you're in the region you should definitely check it out. I have been twice already- I keep buying Frost and Snow cupcakes!

But on Sunday we had giant king prawns and garlic potatoes. I posted a picture on twitter @neleh87 if you would like to see! It was delicious, but the sort of food you should be eating in the sun, not huddled under an awning, hiding from the rain.

The weather made me realise I am not fully equipped for rain. Yes I have a brolly. Yes I have my lovely trench coat. NO I do not have rain appropriate shoes! I run around in ballet flats, wondering why my feet are turning purple!

Boots are not the answer, not for summer, not for me anyway. My wedges hold up fairly well in the rain, so I went mooching the mid-height heels sections on various websites. The answer appeared instantly- heeled brogues!

The ones in the Polyvore set are from Topshop and I am in love with them. I will be on the look out for cheaper alternatives from New Look.

Now that I think of it, I've seen other bloggers wear brogues in the rain. The most recent that comes to mind is Vintage Reflection. Kudos to all you ladies who already rock this style- I will be following.

I have to say the rain in summer is seriously annoying! I never know what to wear. I really want some brogues now! That jacket looks amazing too.

Can't believe that the weather for June is like this - but another reason to pop in to topshop and buy a new coat! YES! x

Very Alexa Chung, right? I love the outfit, and with the prada version of the oxford shoes, I'm sure the outcome would also be great!

Ooh brogues in the rain sound like a great idea! Much better than rain boots. And those cupcakes sound delicious!

Living where it does not rain for long periods at a time (not to rub it in, I promise!), I am never prepared for the rain. I have an umbrella, and I have warm jackets, but I too never have rain-appropriate shoes! Rain is rarely a factor when shoe shopping, so when it does rain, I'm more or less doomed, haha

The heeled brogues are a brilliant solution, however!

I'm also totally unprepared for rain! Not only am I without sensible shoes, I don't own a summer coat/jacket or an umbrella... oh dear! haha love that trench though! xxx

I admit, I'm a bit jealous of your cooler weather. It's dreadfully hot where I live right now! I'd love it to cool off enough so I could wear a trench that cute!
